July 29, 2022As Leaders a key part of our motivation is our vision. We are often so connected with our vision that we almost forget it is there. It is a part of who we are. However, I often find that because the vision is so close to me, I forget to communicate it regularly with our team. Our teams are not necessarily as closely bonded to our visions as we are, particularly when there is a newer team member. It is up to us to talk about our vision as much as possible, to make it a part of the life blood of our teams. It is only through daily mentions & consistent communication that our teams will become closer to the vision. Here are 3 things I have found incredibly helpful when communicating our vision:
- Keep it natural: I have found that the mentioning the vision naturally through relating it to day-to-day moments has been far more effective with our team than holding formal meetings. Wherever anything in the business relates to the vision – mention it.
- Keep it constant: If you ask any of our team, they will tell you that I am constantly talking about our vision. At the start of a meeting, I will ask about it, whenever a day to day opportunity arises I mention it. It is part of everything we do, from our recruitment process to client interactions and how we celebrate employee anniversaries.
- Keep it relevant: The final thing I do to communicate the vision is to use relevant and real examples to draw it out. Mentioning & acknowledging something a team member has just done that furthers our vision is a great way to communicate not just the words or vision statement but also the vision in action.
